Finally, a list of the top rank and rent niches that I have compiled from experience and from getting the feedback from so many other rank and rent students and real practitioners.
One of the most frustrating things when it comes to the rank and rent business model is picking a niche and city with confidence.
I compiled a list that has the niches which have great profit margins off of an average sale along with enough demand which will prove an incredible ROI when presented in the lead value calculator.
I highly suggest you take a good look at this list and learn why these niches have some big opportunities awaiting.
A List Of The Top Rank And Rent Niches
1. Concrete
Concrete is a niche growing in popularity and trending in the remodeling and renovation world.
It is a cost effective option to help add beautiful and unique aesthetics to your home and work space.
Average Price: The cost for a simple concrete pouring project could range from $4.00-$6.50 per square feet or $125 per yard.
There are also additional types of decorative concrete work that could be of interest including:
- Stamped Concrete: Costs $7.50 – $14.00 per square foot
- Patios: Costs $5.00 – $10.00 per square foot
- Driveways $7.00 – $12.00 per square foot
- Walkways: Cost $5.00 – $12.00 per square foot
Indoor Concrete Options:
- Stained Concrete: Cost $4.50 – $12.00 per square foot
- Polished Concrete: Cost $3.00 – $12.00 per square foot
- Concrete Flooring: Cost $2.50 – $14.00 per square foot
- Concrete Countertops: Cost $60.00 – $150.00 per square foot
Average Profitability For A Concrete Contractor: Over A 20% Profit Margin Is Expected. An average concrete slab job is around $4,000. Even at 20% the net profit would be $800 and that is being conservative.
2. Sprinkler and Irrigation
Sprinklers systems are a popular service that is a must in this day and age. If you have a home with a garden and lawn it is essential to keep them watered and maintained.
The average cost of a sprinkler system is over $2,500. These jobs can be completed in one day and are very profitable.
There are also large commercial irrigation jobs that could be big money for your potential rank and rent client.
- Golf Courses
- Shopping Malls
- Apartment Complexes
- Storefronts
- Parks
There are also sprinkler repair jobs that will most likely come in. These repairs are nowhere near the price of a full irrigation system install but could add up to decent extra money if done in volume.
Average repair could be anywhere from $75.00-$300.00
3. Screened Pool Enclosures
Here is a niche that I feel is untapped in the rank and rent lead generation space. Could be a great niche to explore.
Average screened In pool enclosure costs around $6-$14 per square foot depending on the type, size and features, with an average cost of almost $10,000 per install nationwide.
There is also a smaller niche under this umbrella.
Screen Repair: The average screen repair cost is around $200 and is nowhere near as lucrative as pool enclosures but there could be volume in certain areas.
This niche is definitely more popular in specific parts of the country so keep that in mind.
4. Gutter Installation
Average cost for gutter installation is $7-$15 per linear foot for aluminum standard gutters. The average one story home is in need of around 100-200 linear feet. This becomes $700 on the below end and $3000 on the high end.
Gutter installation by a professional is done in one day and can be a profitable business if run correctly.
There are also additional types of gutter materials. Copper Gutters have become more popular and these gutters cost on average $15-$30 per linear foot. Vinyl, Steel and Zinc or amongst other materials gutters can come in as well.
The average profit on a $2000 gutter installation is around $
Sub Niches: Gutter Repairs and Gutter Cleaning.
Gutter repairs have an average cost of $150-$550
Gutter cleaning has an average cost of $0.80-$1.00 per linear foot. An average home of 200 linear foot cleaning would be between $160-$200
The average gutter repair or cleaning cost is obviously much lower in revenue compared to full installations. My suggestion would be to try and create a lead generation site that focuses on the bigger ticket items.
5. Epoxy Flooring HOT RANK AND RENT NICHE
This market is exploding right next to concrete. We are starting to see countertops, interior floors, garage floors, patio floors, tables and so many other home improvement projects incorporate epoxy.
Epoxy services cost anywhere from $4 to $12 per square foot including materials and labor. Here is a breakdown.
Epoxy Services | Average Pricing |
Epoxy Countertops | $100-$200 per square foot |
Epoxy Interior Flooring | $5-$15 per square foot |
Epoxy Garage Floors/Metallic Epoxy | $4 to $12 per square foot |
The aesthetics of a beautiful epoxy floor or countertop is what makes this service so popular. It is also more affordable than granite, marble and other expensive finishes.
This is a great alternative and I expect this industry to BOOM with demand and growth.
6. Stucco
This is a service for both commercial and residential. Most stucco contractors provide all three of these stucco services. Stucco Repairs, Stucco Installation,Stucco Removal and Stucco Patching.
The best opportunities for rank and rent websites are to produce the high ticket leads for full stucco installation jobs.
The average full residential stucco installation job on a 1500 sq foot home is about $10,000 compared to lower cost of $400-$1500 on average repairs.
Full stucco removal jobs can be very profitable as well but are not in high demand.
7. Pavers/Patios
Pavers are still a popular and durable way to update backyards, pools, patios, driveways and walkways.
Average cost for paver installation rangers between $10-$22 per square foot. A 500 square foot patio would cost between $5,000-$11,000 for both labor and material.
This is a seasonal niche so be sure to look for areas where the weather is somewhat dry and throughout the year.
Places such as New York where it snows and gets frigid cold winters will have months where paver companies do not operate.
8. Awnings
This is a unique but profitable local home service. Backyard roll out awnings are definitely a great addition for shade in the summers.
Residential Backyard rollout or retractable awnings: These awnings cost on average $5,000-$12,000 for a 20’x20’ awning.
Residential window awnings are another service.
Commercial awnings are a need for many storefront businesses and cost on average $1500 for a standard size branded awning and can make its way up into thousands of dollars depending on the size and custom features.
9. Swimming Pools
This is a very high ticket service.
Average inground pool installation cost about $35,000. This is typically what an average homeowner spends across the U.S.
It’s important to keep in mind that size and features play a big part in the price.
An inground pool will also take a few months to complete from start to finish. From design, escalation, permits and if you are adding special features like a pool patio surround.
Pool contractors can typically profit 25% or more on the average pool project.
Quick Tip: You need someone who can handle growth and more installations. Keep in mind these projects are not done in one day.
You can also look into above ground pool installation.
Above ground pool installations cost on average $3,000. This all depends on size and location.
And these type pools can be installed in one day.
10. Demolition/Excavation
Demolition is a unique but highly sought out business. I personally know a demolition company that specializes in bathroom rip outs on Long Island, NY. They charge $600 and guarantee a complete bathroom gut to the studs in 1 day.
This is considered a small job but the overhead is low because it is just manual labor. No materials or heavy equipment needed. This makes demolition highly profitable.
Big demolition or excavation jobs could cost thousands upon thousands including knocking down and cleanup of a home, clearing a commercial property or even removing walls, plumbing and electrical.
11. Spray Foam Insulation
Spray is the new alternative to the old fiberglass sheets of insulation. Spray foam is cost effective, fast and considered a better insulation method. As far as rank and rent niches this is becoming one that I am hearing a lot about.
The average cost is $0.45-$1.50 per square foot of spray foam.
A spray foam insulation business can be very profitable. The average spray foam jobs typically expect 50% in gross profits and about 25% in net profits.
Average jobs are done in one day and two day max so this could be a great potential rank and rent business niche to scale.
12. Artificial Grass/Turf
The average professional artificial grass installation project will take between 1-4 days to complete. Small areas around 300-500 square feet can be done in one day. But the larger projects of 1000 square feet or more will take a few days.
The average cost for artificial grass installation is around $12 per square foot. On the low end some installations can cost around $5.50 per square foot but it depends on the type of artificial lawn, brand, blade style and project size.
Different artificial grass materials include:
- Polypropylene
- Polyethylene
- Nylon
The net profit margin on an artificial lawn and turf business is over 40% with the correct systems, material pricing and expert installers.
13. Air Duct Cleaning
This business is a good one to look into as a local lead provider since it is a repeat customer type of business with High customer retention rates.
Some Air Duct cleaners have shared that they profit $3,000-$5,000 per week in just cleanings.
The average cost for getting your air ducts cleaned in your home is around $350.
This is definitely a niche to consider if you can provide enough volume in inbound calls.
14. House Painting
I am personally building lead gen websites in this niche. What is great about this niche is the different services within painting.
We generate exterior house painting jobs, interior jobs and cabinet painting. There are also decks, patios and other types of painting that you can get real specific with.
I can tell you that this is a lucrative business. Here is an example of the profits on a job that was just completed from a lead we generated with our rank and rent google business.
The job was for painting a 2 bedroom basement apartment. This job came out to be $3,600. Had a crew of 3 guys there for 3 days and profit was 30% off this Job after paying all expensive including material and the crew.
15. Flooring
There are so many different types of flooring to get specific on when setting up a lead generation site in this niche. You could do the following flooring services.
- Tile Installers Average Install Cost $5.00-$12.00 per square foot
- Wood Floor Installers Average Install Cost $4.00-$6.00 per square foot
- Laminate Installers Average Install Cost $2.00-$3.00 per square foot
- Vinyl Installers Average Install Cost $3.00-$5.00 per square foot
- Carpet Installers Average Install Cost $3.50 to $11.00 per square foot
An idea could be to create a flooring + “city” website and Google Business Page and optimize it with fully developed service pages covering all the types of floor installation mentioned above.
If you could find a flooring contractor that does it all that’s great. If not then you could have one site that has multiple potential partners.
You can also get into the unique service of “wood floor refinishing”. This became a very popular service in New York. Again, it is very important to do your due diligence on location.
16. Dumpster Rentals
Dumpsters can be a very lucrative business. Let’s break down a real example shared from a dumpster rental owner with 5 roll offs, one trailer and one truck.
Revenue:
Average 15 yard dumpster rental price: $325
Average Dump and Fuel Cost
Dump Cost $65.00 + Fuel Cost $20.00 =$85.00
5 Rentals Rented Per Week= $1,625
EXPENSES =$425
$1,625
-$425
=$1,200 Net Per Week
20 Rentals Per Month Can Produce These Results. $57,600 NET per year!
You would also have to subtract a few thousand dollars off the bottom number for maintenance and Insurance depending on the state
Get Your Dumpster Partner 40-50 Good Leads Per Month and They Should Be Stoked And On The Way To GROWTH
17. Remodeling Contractor
Anything remodeling could be some great potential revenue. I personally have a partner who gets kitchens, home additions and large renovation jobs all from a website and GBP ranking at the top for remodeling related words.
He has given estimates in the multiple 6 Figures on projects generated from the power of local SEO.
Profits on remodeling are around 15% on average but these are big money jobs. Even a $200k job can bring in $30,000 in profit. Finding an experienced contractor that offers quality and superior services is key. They know how to price the jobs correctly and get them done on time to be lucrative.
There are specific types of contractors that work on big projects. Here are a few specific types of remodeling to explore. You want big tickets since the profit margins are tight.
- Full Home Extensions & Additions
- House Lifters
- House Flipper Remodeler
- Custom Stairs and Railings
18. Deck Builders
Decks and front porches are a great feature for yards that have been around for years.
The average deck cost anywhere from $4,000-$12,000.
The average basic pressure treated wood deck cost around $8.00 per square foot. This does not include railings or with a raised deck frame with poured footings.
Let’s break down different types of deck materials and cost.
Cedar $5.00-$7.00 per square foot in material add an additional $5.00-$12.00 per square foot for labor
Mahogany $8.00-$11.00 per square foot in material $5.00-$12.00 per square foot for labor
Trex will cost $12.00-$25.00 per square foot
Other Composite Decking will cost on average:$15.00-$36.00 per square foot
Since Trex and similar deck materials have become so popular let’s look at the cost of an average 15×15 deck @$15.00 per square foot. This would cost $3,375 just for a ground level deck build.
Custom decks with larger staircases, flooring patterns, benches or flower pots/beds, lighting and railings can cost extra thousands of dollars. “Custom” is another great keyword to be optimized around in this niche.
19. Fireplace Installation
This is a great mid-high ticket niche that requires a good set of skills.
The Average Cost is $1,200 – $8,500 For Electric, Gas, Masonry, or Wood-Burning Fireplace conversion or insert installed.
If a new fireplace is constructed from scratch this could cost well over $20,000 depending on size and materials.
Chimneys with stone or brick construction will not be cheap. It doesn’t hurt to do some local research in the area you are interested in and give a few calls for ball park pricing. You could say it’s all for a research project.
However existing fireplaces getting a gas conversion seem to be popular and still a good profit maker for a fireplace installer.
20. Landscape Design
This is a very unique space. What’s great about landscape design is there is no real physical labor involved or material.
It is really the skill of the designer that is being paid for.
Average small landscape design projects could range from $500-$2500
Larger projects could cost $5,000-$10,000
If the designer is sought out because of the name he or she has built the pricing could go up.
This is a tricky niche depending on location. You definitely want to target a prominent area where homeowners will be spending for this type of service.
I think a landscape design company that does both design and installation could be a great potential partner to generate leads for.
21. Custom Closets
Custom closets will always be a thing. Technology, secret shelving and durable hardware are only becoming more popular in closet designs.
This is another niche that could be great in the right location. When you do your due diligence on keywords around custom closet make sure you do not just see metrics like search volume, low competition but also think to yourself if the area you are targeting is ideal for big custom closet layouts.
Walk in closets with custom built-ins are where money is made. You need the square footage in a house for this type of closet.
Custom Closets Cost on Average $1500-$25,000 all in with material and labor.
22. Septic System Repair
The average costs for septic tank repairs can vary from $700 to $3,000. This is a service that is definitely needed and it is under the radar from my view.
You can also generate septic tank replacement install leads which could easily be a few thousand dollars more than just a basic repair.
Not all areas in the U.S. use septic tank systems so definitely do your homework but this could be a unique opportunity for you to move in on those areas where septic repair companies are missing out on search traffic.
23. Siding Contractor
This niche is great because it has good profit margins and different types of siding are becoming more popular and more expensive to install.
The popular basic Vinyl siding installed on a 2000 square foot home is around $10,000 on average. This includes both labor and material.
This job could be done in 3-5 days with a 3 person crew. If profits are around 15% for the owner and he could have two crews do 1 install each per week he could bring in $3,000 in profit for himself with no physical labor on his end.
You could help book his calendar and keep his crew busy by securing 8 closed jobs per month.
This is just vinyl pricing. There are other popular more expensive siding installs including:
- Cedar Shake
- Cedar Planks
- Stone
- Brick
- Stone Veneers
- Stucco
Also the brand of siding will make a difference. James Hardie a popular siding brand will cost more compared to a basic siding product from the home depot shelf.
24. Chimney Services
Chimney cleanings and chimney repairs definitely can leave a bad taste in your mouth if you know anything about this industry especially in my neighborhood in NY.
However, this is a service that is needed. Chimney repairs and liner installs is where the money is made. New pointing, Stainless Steel liner and chimney cap is the common install.
The cost depends on the size of the home but on average is around $2500. I know a chimney repair company that was operating on 50% profit margins and jobs were completed in one day.
This is a very lucrative service.
25. Handyman Services
Ranking for Handyman + “Local City” could bring in a boat load of local leads looking for random odd end services that they need done.
The average handyman is charging $100 per hour of labor. This could be a quick fence repair, hanging a tv or patching up a hole in the wall.
North Seattle Handyman owner Caleb said his business does $250,000 per year with one employee.
What a great name he made his business. He leveraged local SEO to help build this business.
You can do proper research to find the perfect location to build a handyman lead gen rank and rent asset and partner with someone looking to grow.
How Can Selecting One of These Niches Help My Rank And Rent Business
After personally experiencing selecting the wrong niche and seeing so many digital entrepreneurs get stuck on this step, I took a poll of the top niches that others are actually making money and scaling in along with niches I personally have had success in.
Avoid These Rank And Rent Niches
Conclusion
I hope this list sparked some confidence in your search. Keep in mind depending on location and service these niches can be seasonal. This is unfortunately the nature of the beast.
However, if you are crushing it during peak season for your rank and rent partner then there should be no reason they will not continue to work with you.
Just make sure you position yourself as the partner who will bring growth and be transparent about what you are looking for in a partner.
Selecting a good niche is super important but another very important part of the process is the location.
In our rank and rent training not only do we speak about selecting a good city but we do due diligence on a much deeper level when it comes to competition.
You see, we want to find high ticket profitable niches with enough search volume in cities that are not saturated with competition.
This gives us a great opportunity to rank fast and also can give us the option to set up a quick Google PPC ad and test the market before we commit.
